The Great Food Truck Race2 - FINISHED FILMING!

Please be sure to watch the Food Network on August 14!

Season 2 for the Great Food Truck Race is being filmed right now HAS FINISHED FILMING.  I was in Las Vegas, where one of my favorite OC Trucks, The Lime Truck was competing against other food trucks to stay in the Race.

Please check out the posts on what I ate in Vegas from The Lime Truck, and some production photos of two food truck teams (Hodge Podge & Devilicious) "strategizing" their next move in Las Vegas.  This segment is supposed to air August 14.

The following week I made a VERY spontaneous trip with my husband (and dog @Perritolulu) from Brea, CA to Salt Lake City, UT.  The drive wasn't that bad... the trip took 10.5 hours each way, and you can click here to see what The Lime Truck was serving up there on Saturday.

Here are the trucks in the Race.  I won't be posting any spoilers (not intentionally)
  • The Lime Truck from the OC,
  • Seabirds truck from the OC,
  • SkyTaco from LA,
  • Cafe con leche from LA,
  • Devilicious from San Diego,
  • Hodge Podge from Cleveland, OH,
  • Roxy's Grilled Cheese from Boston, MA,
  • KorillaBBQ from New York
Please follow me on twitter for clues on the next filming location.
I'll try to post updates here when I "hear" them on twitter.

If you click here, I've sorted the posts that are relating to the Great Food Truck Race 2 and the cities. If you do eat at the Lime Truck... Tell them you saw pictures of their food from "Callmemochelle's" blog!  It won't get you anything... but MAYBE a laugh or two.

The Food Network issued a press release, including the cities the trucks will be in...
Click here to see the information.  Follow    or #Greatfoodtruckrace on Twitter to see where your favorite truck(s) will be.

Disclaimer: these can all be found on twitter but the information may not be 100% accurate
"The trucks determine their locations once they reach the city (on Friday) and determine the most effective way to promote/market that location. We cannot provide specific information. It's a very underground/viral production," a spokesperson said in an email.

Food Trucks Rally for Family of Fallen Hawthorne Police Officer

This Thursday evening, June 9th, in Los Alamitos, nine food trucks will raise money for the family of Officer Andrew Garton, the Hawthorne motorcycle patrolman killed on May 26th while escorting the funeral of a Manhattan Beach police officer.

Chris Rocke, the owner of barbecue truck Rancho a GoGo said, "I had the idea to see if the food trucks that gather in Los Al on Thursday's Picnic at the Plaza would be interested in raising funds." Rocke says Officer Garton's widow and two young sons live in Los Alamitos, so the idea spread quickly among other truck owners through Wendy Watson of GotFoodTrucks.com, the organizer of the weekly clustertruck.
According to Rocke, each truck is pledging 10% of sales this Thursday, which will go directly to the Garton family.

This week's participants include:
Ragin Cajun on Wheels
Crepes Bonaparte
The Flip Truck
Kona Ice Beach Cities
Oh For Sweet's Sake
Ranchan Ramen
Rancho a Go Go
SlapFish Truck
Swinging Kitchen

Picnic at the Plaza is held in the parking lot of US Bank at 10942 Pine St, Los Alamitos every Thursday between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Proceeds will be donated to a trust fund set up by the Hawthorne Police Officers Association. Individual donors may send checks payable to "Officer Andrew Garton Family c/o HPOA."

20 College Food Trucks That Will Blow Your Mind

This was forwarded to me from a fellow foodie....
Click here for the original link

Although food trucks are occasionally snubbed by those who aren’t in the know, these mobile eateries often turn out amazing culinary creations. College students with food trucks on campus know how great they have it — instead of schlepping off campus to pick up something interesting to eat, the food trucks make it easy to eat right where you are by physically driving to where customers flock. Not every school is lucky enough to have one or more food trucks serving their campus, but the students enjoying these trucks in particular surely understand how fortunate they are.
  1. Gorilla Gourmet: An eclectic cheese sandwich truck, Gorilla Gourmet has established a permanent location. Students from Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo College can stop by after classes for some gourmet street food.
  2. Like No Udder: On the Brown campus, Like No Udder serves vegan ice cream, offering "World Peace Through Vegan Soft-Serve."
  3. Yum Yum Bowls: UCLA students are no strangers to food trucks, as the university has contracted with more than a dozen trucks. One of those is Yum Yum Bowls, offering Thai fusion from a truck.
  4. Maria’s Italian Kitchen: To make up for slow traffic in the campus cafeteria, College of the Canyons ditched the facility and went all-truck for the school’s winter session, contracting with food trucks like Maria’s Italian Kitchen.
  5. Souper Freak: This conspicuously bright red truck shares soups, salads and sandwiches with Johns Hopkins students. Specialties include Vegan Thai Carrot, BBQ Chicken Wrap and Turkey Chili with Hominy.
  6. Gul’s Breakfast and Lunch Cart: As the top-rated truck on PennFoodTrucks.com, Gul’s is well-loved for powering through long lunch hour lines with a great menu variety. Favorites include their cheesesteaks and grilled chicken pita.
  7. Rutgers Grease Trucks: Rutgers students can enjoy heart attack sandwiches in this group of fast food trucks. Buns stuffed with fried foods, like chicken fingers and mozzarella sticks, push the idea of what a sandwich can be in a deliciously greasy way.
  8. Calabria Express: Students with roaming hunger can get hot meals on the go at RIT’s dining truck, including a chipotle chicken sandwich, baked penne rigate, and daily specials.
  9. Wooly: As a support truck for the City College geology department, Wooly feeds students in the fields, equipped with an incredible kitchen that brings the estimated value of the truck to $120,000. Students from the culinary department accompany geology students on their trips to get on the field catering experience.
  10. Motosurf: In the Red Square of University of Washington, students are able to pick up Hawaii’an-style lunches with big portions and low prices.
  11. Clover: Serving the MIT community, Clover is entirely vegetarian/vegan with locally-sourced ingredients. Students can pick up seitan, soy BLTs and potato-tempeh salad.
  12. Alphabite: Alphabite is operated by the Miami Culinary Institute in a campaign to spread food culture innovation. The food truck features a big letter on the side, offering a hint to what’s being served, such as Q for barbeQue.
  13. El Tenampo: At UWM, students can get a taste of authentic Mexican food from El Tenampo, with $1.50 tacos within walking distance of campus.
  14. Armando’s Lunch Truck: Homemade hot sauce, breakfast burritos, and a spicy chicken sandwich are on the menu at Armando’s Lunch Truck, serving USC’s main campus with fast and friendly service.
  15. Grey Horse Tavern: The Grey Horse Tavern rolling kitchen serves organic and local food to students at Stony Brook University. This truck is a mobile unit from an established restaurant, offering foods that students can eat on the go, like grilled cheese and tacos.
  16. Red Hook Lobster Pound: At George Washington University, students can pick up lobster and shrimp rolls, Maine-style in mayo or drizzled with butter, Connecticut style.
  17. Mom’s Delicious Dishes: Students who miss the comfort food of home can visit Mom’s Delicious Dishes for meals made by real moms on the North Carolina State University Centennial Campus. They serve meatloaf sandwiches, gourmet mac and cheese and more. They visit the farmer’s market daily, using local and organic products whenever possible.
  18. e.a.t.: Also known as easy artisan takeout, e.a.t. serves the University of Pacific South Campus. The exterior of the truck was designed by art students, and caters to their peers, allowing them to use campus dining points for food like breakfast sandwiches and smoked brisket.
  19. Wafels & Dinges: Wafles & Dinges offers Columbia students two styles of Belgian waffle in a big yellow truck. Their butter is well loved, described by one student as "crack butter."
  20. Lizzie’s Curbside Cuisine: Students and faculty at UConn enjoy this independent food truck with all of its offerings made by Lizzie herself from scratch. Lizzie has been serving students breakfast sandwiches, Swedish meatball grinders, jerk pork loin and more for over 20 years

Crepes Bonaparte Founder to Launch Brats Berlin German Bratwurst Truck

Orange County, CA – June 6, 2011 – After operating Crepes Bonaparte gourmet food truck for over a year in Orange County and Los Angeles – leading it to success on Food Network’s “The Great Food Truck Race” and Cooking Channel’s “Food Truck Revolution” – founder Christian Murcia is launching Brats Berlin German bratwurst truck.

Brats Berlin will serve a selection of authentic German sausages and fresh cut Belgian fries – all from a truck hand painted by local street artist Evolve.

Designed to be reminiscent of East Side Gallery in Berlin, Germany, the exterior of the truck will be redesigned every few months to feature a new artist’s work.

Truck schedule locations and menus will be available on Brats Berlin’s website (BratsBerlin.com), Twitter (Twitter.com/BratsBerlin) and Facebook (Facebook.com/BratsBerlin).

Brats Berlin is scheduled to begin serving OC and LA in July 2011.
