I originally was not planning on going to SoCo, as Costa Mesa is not that close to my home. I decided to make a special trip to pick up dinner, so I could stay in tonight to watch the Ducks play the (Hated Ones) from LA on tv.

Martin picked up the steak salad from Barcelona onthego, and I got the Brisket sliders & Pulled Pork sliders from Rancho a Go Go.

The San Diego Food Truck scene is starting to boom. The 57 Degrees Wine Bar had their second gathering and I drove down with Linda and Karen to check it out.

We arrived early, which was a smart move.  Most of the trucks sold out of food within the first two hours of the event. 

I took pictures of most of the trucks in attendance, and matched up the food we tried.

March 19-20: Food Truck Festival in Redondo Beach

A festival of food trucks will arrive in King Harbor this weekend.

If you build it, they will come. If you tear it down, they will still come.

The site of several former restaurants in King Harbor – most recently Valencia – will host a festival of food trucks over four upcoming weekends prior to its demolition later this spring as the future home of the boutique Shade Hotel.

The Food Truck Fest and FUNdraiser, organized by former Hermosa Councilman (and current Barbie Q food truck operator) John Bowler, with Shade owner Mike Zislis, will feature a variety of cuisines and benefit the Redondo Union High School Associated Student Body.

Bowler said Zislis wanted to find a way to give back to the community while utilizing the currently vacant site.

“Mike has got a lot of class and understands community,” Bowler said. “This all dovetails nicely as a win-win all the way around – the schools get some money and the community gets food trucks, which is a bit of a rarity in the South Bay.”

Bowler said there will be off street parking available. “Plus everyone bikes and skates and walks and staggers in that area,” he said. “One of the great things in the South Bay is everything you need is within staggering distance…It’s one of the signs of an enlightened community.”

Hours are 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. the weekends of Feb. 12 and 13, Feb. 19 and 20, March 19 and 20, and April 2 and 3.

Trucks featured include Barbie’s Q, Rosa’s Bella Cocina, No Reservations Catering, Kabob and Roll, Tasty Meat, India Jones, Fishlips, Shrimp Pimp, Bera’s Custom Cheese Steaks, Cool Haus, Babie’s Bad Ass Burgers, and Hungry Nomad. ER

The Chuckwagon Stop is still looking for a new home. Tonight the temporary home was at the Robbins Brothers store in Fullerton.

I went to Baconmania for their Corned Beef & bacon sliders for St. Patrick's Day. Martin got the Pork with Rosemary & Basil (named Cerdo con Calabazas) and Karen picked up her Empanadas.

Event Information

  • There will be a $2 entrance fee. Guests will receive a ticket which can be used to receive a $2 discount off an alcoholic beverage priced at $10 or more. This beverage must be consumed on property.
  • All children ages 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Children 12 and under receive free admission.
  • There will be live music.
  • Restrooms: There are two restrooms located in the building and three located in the parking lot.
  • Transportation/Parking – For the easiest option, we recommend taking the trolley to the Washington Station. There is also ample parking up and down Hancock, India and Washington Streets. Expect minimal walking. Get more details here.
  • You will be required to drink alcohol only in the designated area.
With so much success with our last mobile food gathering and every one of the trucks who showed up running out of food (see videos here), we thought we would do it again.... but BIGGER! That's right folks, we have begun putting together the new largest mobile food gathering ever assembled in San Diego.
Although our last event was a success, our goal is to make this a regular occurrence. We strive to make any experience you have at 57 Degrees a memorable one. We have looked online at what people liked and what people said we could have done better and have taken notes.  This event will continue to improve each and every time we host it. Los Alamitos: The Lime Truck, Tropical Shave Ice

If it's Tuesday, it's Los Alamitos Din Din a Go Go at 11081 Winners Circle.
Tonight the Lime Truck was celebrating St. Patrick's Day with Corned Beef Hash on mustard grain cabbage. I ordered that, and the "Nice Little Salad" with Fried chicken, and the Lychee Limeaid to drink.

Martin got the Ahi Tuna Poke, Spicy Hanger Steak Taco, and (off the menu) the  Shishito Blistered Peppers.

For dessert.... Tropical Shave Ice!

How can anyone stay indoor when living in Southern California? Today Karen, Linda and I met up at OC Great Park.

Barcelona onthego had two new items: Egg & chorizo breakfast tacos and crispy shrimp (which I think is wrapped with prosciutto).

Linda went to the Rollingsushivan and picked up the spicy tuna chips, and we watched Chef Chris demonstrate how to make sushi.

I also went to the Tamale stand and ordered the pork tamale.
